Foraging 101: Late Spring Wild Foods and Medicines

Description: Join us for a wild food and medicine foraging class in the field with herbalist and healer, Andrea Marcinkus.  We will journey through 3 to 4 distinct ecosystems including prairie, oak savannah, pine stand forest, and marsh amidst the beauty of the Campton Forest Preserve. Delve into the ancient art of connecting with nature's abundant offerings as your experienced guide leads you on a journey of discovery and exploration. Learn to identify and how to use a diverse array of early spring edible plants, trees, mushrooms, and herbs while gaining valuable insights into their nutritional, medicinal, energetic, and spiritual properties. This immersive experience will equip you with the knowledge and skills to safely and sustainably gather wild foods and medicines and harness their healing potential.

During this class, you'll have the opportunity to deepen your understanding of a variety of ecosystems and their intricate relationships. Traverse the trails as you learn about the natural habitats of various species and the ecological, medicinal, and cultural significance of their presence. Learn a simple technique to communicate with the healing spirits of the plants and mushrooms we find. Andrea will also share time-tested techniques for responsible foraging, including proper plant identification, ethical harvesting practices, and conservation principles.

Join us each season to explore the changing variety of healing and nourishing plants!

Time: 9:00 AM to Noon

Cost: $65

Where to meet - We will meet at Campton Forest Preserve (4N379 Town Hall Rd, St. Charles, IL 60175) The entrance is just off of Hwy 64, with the Wasco Nursery directly across the street (on the corner of Town Hall and 64).  When you enter the preserve, at the fork, stay on the right.  You will drive up a small hill and see the pavilion, toilets, and water station.  Please park in this lot. We will meet near the pavilion.
