Root & Rise
A Plant Spirit & Wild Medicine Retreat

October 17-20, 2026

Held at Fresh Coast Cabins on Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula — a wild northern landscape shaped by forest, water, and the ancient breath of Lake Superior.

A 3-day (2 half-days, 2 full), 3-night immersion into the heart of nature and self. Through wild medicine, plant spirit communion, and sacred ceremony, we root deeply into the earth to rise renewed in body, heart, and spirit. Each day balances guided practices with open space for rest, private healing, and communion with the land.

An Immersion in Land-Centered Healing

Root & Rise is a 3-night retreat rooted in plant spirit wisdom, somatic presence, and nature-based ritual. Held on the shores of Lake Superior in Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula, this experience invites you to slow down, listen deeply, and engage with wild medicine in community.

Root & Rise offers intentional experiences woven into spacious days for reflection, rest, and personal practice.

Why Root & Rise?

This retreat is designed to:

  • reconnect you with the intelligence of plants and the land

  • cultivate meditative presence and nervous system regulation

  • offer ceremony that supports healing without overwhelm

  • invite you into meaningful connection with yourself, others, and more-than-human worlds

While rooted in ceremonial practice, Root & Rise is accessible for all levels — no prior experience with plant work or ritual is required.

What You'll Experience

Together, we will:

  • commune with plant spirit allies

  • gather in fire and water-facing spaces

  • craft healing plant-based herbal remedies

  • explore somatic and meditative practices

  • engage in grounding creative integration

  • receive guidance for personal healing and reflection

Daily rhythms balance guided practice, with personal space, allowing each guest to move at their own pace.

Accomodations

The cabins at Fresh Coast Cabins offer a blend of rustic charm and simple comfort, each set along the rocky shoreline of Lake Superior. Some cabins reflect classic log-cabin character, while others have been thoughtfully updated over time with larger windows, improved kitchens, fireplaces, and private patios or porches. All are designed to support slowing down, resting well, and feeling connected to the land.

Because the cabins were built and repurposed over decades, each one is slightly different in size, layout, and finish. What they share is a quiet, grounded atmosphere — with lake winds, wildlife, and star-filled skies as part of daily life.

Room Types & Availability:

  • Single Cabin: Private cabin, full comfort, ideal for solo stay.

  • Solo Room, Shared Cabin: Private bedroom within a shared cabin space.

  • Shared Cabin – Jack & Jill: Private bedroom with shared access; one occupant may pass through another’s room to enter theirs.

All cabins are equipped with the basics you’ll need for a comfortable stay, including:

  • Beds with fresh linens and pillows

  • Bath towels

  • Heat and electricity

  • A kitchen or kitchenette with: refrigerator; stove or cooktop (varies by cabin); basic cookware, dishes, and utensils; cozy living or sitting space

  • Vintage tape deck / radio (no televisions)

Cabins do not have TVs, and cell service is not available on the property. This simplicity is intentional and part of the retreat experience.

You do not need to bring sheets, towels, or kitchenware. You may wish to bring personal snacks, a travel mug or thermos, slippers or cozy socks, and anything that helps you feel at home in a rustic setting.

Travel & Logistics

Getting There

Root & Rise is held at Fresh Coast Cabins, just outside Copper Harbor, at the northern tip of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Part of the retreat experience is the journey itself — a gradual transition from busy roads to forest, lake, and quiet.

Driving

Many participants choose to drive. From the Chicago area, including Aurora, the retreat is approximately 430–450 miles, depending on route. Driving time is typically 8.5–10 hours, allowing for rest stops and weather conditions.

The final stretch through the Upper Peninsula is slower, scenic, and rural. We recommend downloading Google Maps for offline use before your final approach, as cell service becomes limited as you near Copper Harbor. A Google Maps link to the cabins will be provided after registration.

Flying + Car Rental

If you prefer to fly, there are two primary airport options:

  • Houghton County Memorial Airport (CMX) is the closest airport, approximately 1 hour from Copper Harbor. Flights are limited and typically connect through Chicago or Detroit. Rental cars are available on site.

  • Sawyer International Airport (MQT) is a larger regional airport with more flight options, located approximately 2.5–3 hours from Copper Harbor. Rental cars are available.

A rental car is required from either airport. Public transportation and rideshare services are extremely limited in the Upper Peninsula.

Arrival Notes

  • Please plan to arrive during the scheduled check-in window on Day 1

  • Cell service is not available at the cabins

  • A shared Wi-Fi point and land line is available on the property for emergencies

  • Roads are paved and well-maintained, but wildlife crossings are common — especially at dusk

A Note for First-Time Upper Peninsula Travelers

If this is your first visit to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, know that the remoteness is intentional and part of the medicine of this place. Towns are small and spread out, so it’s wise to fuel up, grab snacks, and take care of essentials before the final stretch north.

Expect fewer lights, quieter nights, and wide open skies. Many guests find that the drive itself becomes a threshold — a gentle unwinding before arriving at the retreat container.

Meet Your Guide — Andrea

Ritual and plant-spirit facilitator • Herbalist and ceremony holder • Land-based guide and plant ally practitioner

Andrea Marcinkus, owner of Adhara Alchemy, is a lifelong herbalist, naturalist, and plant-spirit practitioner devoted to deepening relationship with the living world. With over 30 years of dedicated study and practice, she has cultivated a grounded connection with botanical and fungal allies and the wisdom they carry.

Andrea’s early studies began alongside her grandfather and continued through mentorship with experienced herbalists and indigenous healers. For more than eight years, she has been holding cacao ceremonies and seasonal gatherings rooted in intentional ritual and respectful plant communion.

She has studied meditation for over 25 years and is a certified Meditation Teacher through the Priority Academy and the Complementary Therapists Accredited Association. Andrea is also a Usui Ryoho Reiki Master-Teacher (Shinpiden level), with a specialization in animal Reiki and equine energy work.

Her facilitation values authenticity, presence, and depth of experience. She creates environments where real connection unfolds naturally and without pressure. Drawing on her extensive knowledge of wild plants and mushrooms, Andrea supports participants in cultivating embodied, sustainable relationships with plant allies — grounded in reverence, clarity, and lived practice.

At Root & Rise, she brings this lifetime of study and devotion into a carefully held ceremonial container where land, ritual, and community interweave — creating space to root into what is steady and rise into deeper connection.
